The purpose of the line was to improve perception of the Hondo brand name. They were built from late 1979 through 1981, and sold from 1980-1983.
Most featured the Hondo II Script logo, but in early 1981,they began switching to the new Sunrise logo, and a gold plated truss rod cover. After the Professional Series was discontinued, the Revival Series, Deluxe Series Mark II and Mastercaster Series took its place as Hondos top-of-the-line series. On bolt-neck models, they were often engraved on the neck plate with a gold and black Made in Japan sticker (some Tokai-built models had a white Made in Japan sticker with black text), but not always. Set-neck models often had no serial number, but the ones that did had it stamped into the back of the headstock. In Reply to Classical Guitar in Japan Here is a bit of information I found while searching for information about my Aria (Ariana) A570 Classical Guitar, which you Aria owners may find beneficial. At least for Aria guitars, made by Matsumoku, the serial number contains the year of manufacture in the first 2 digits, thus a guitar from 1979 would have a serial number, such as 79. The manufacturing of Aria guitars were subcontracted out to Matsumoku from 1964 to 1986. ![]() Serial 1049457. If anyone can help me figure the date and possibly the value of the guitar it would be much appreciated. Its been handed down for years in good condition and there is no knowledge within my family of when it was bought. Can anybody figure out the model and serial Aria, made in Japan. Nothing seams to match the numbers on deferent dating charts. Its in beautiful condition and the sounds is absolutely smooth. Has a hint of jazz to it Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated. I still havent figured out why theyd have different numbers unless the necks and bodies came off different lines. Also I think my puckups are P-90s, not the gold covered humbuckers Ive seen the catalog picture. If anyone can help with any information regardig the age ect it would be much appreciated. Ultimately it doesnt effect the amazing performance(action, intonation, tonality, resonance) of this guitar, but a history would be great. The serial number on the label inside the sound hole is 00081, which I think means made in 1970 and the 81st made that year of that model. If thats true, then our 2 guitars were perhaps made by the same person maybe a few weeks apart. All in has is a model number of A9414 and another number stamped into the inside of the guitar of 61218. Any way I can get more info about this particular guitar Thanks in advance. I would be grateful if you help me to know the year of construction. It has original friction pegs of rosewood and a solid cedar top. ![]() Does anyone have any info on this instrument I would reaaly apreciate knowing more Thanks, Jim Campbell. The serial number is 66106258, and the model number is AWGAGP-2N.
